(WABI)- Fifty-nine-year-old David Cook, who chairs the planning board and serves as town clerk in nearby Otis, lives in the same area along Phillips Lake where many of the 30 burglaries took place between August and January.
Also arrested on burglary charges were Cook’s son Daniel, Christopher LaPointe of Orrington and a 17-year-old juvenile identified as David Cook’s grandson.
The arrests followed several months of investigation. Police said David Cook may have used his positions in town government to facilitate the burglary ring.
Many of the thefts involved copper pipe and wiring, which have become more valuable as prices for the metal have increased.
