(WABI) – Officers from several law enforcement agencies were involved in a chase this afternoon after a man stole a tractor trailer from the Dysart’s truck stop parking lot.
It happened just before noon.
Once the truck was reported stolen, officers put the word out on the scanner. An off-duty Veazie officer quickly spotted the truck in Bangor and followed it onto the interstate.
Other officers soon began chasing the truck, but the driver would not stop, and continued heading north. Troopers set up spike mats just north of the Kelly road exit in Orono. When the driver approached the spikes, he steered the vehicle in the direction of two troopers standing near their cars, narrowly missing the officers and their cruiser.
The driver hit the spike mats, but kept driving North where he exited the interstate in Old Town
He then got back on the interstate on the South bound lane only to exit at the Kelly road in Orono, and getting onto Stillwater Ave.
The truck came to a stop a short time later after spike mat deflated the front tires. The man driving the truck was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County jail.
Police identify him as 42-year-old Lee Meservie of Orono. He will face several charges, including eluding officers and multiple counts of driving to endanger.
Troopers say it’s a miracle no one was hurt.
