(WABI) – Maine Governor John Baldacci’s flight into Portland this evening was greeted by fire trucks. It wasn’t to celebrate his arrival, it was because the regional jet had a mechanical problem.
Airport Manager Jeff Schultes says the US Airways flight from Washington, DC, had a problem with its flaps. The fire trucks responded per standard operating procedure, and the plane… with 50 people aboard… landed without incident at 4:50 pm.
It wasn’t until afterward the Schultes learned that the governorwas on the flight.
Baldacci was returning from a day trip to Washington to attend a conference put on by the motion picture industry, where he pitched Maine as a good state in which to make movies.
