New Chancellor For UMS

(WABI) – The president of the University of Southern Maine will become the new chancellor of the University of Maine System.

System trustees meeting in Augusta unanimously selected Richard Pattenaude during a 90-minute meeting this afternoon. The public meeting followed a closed-door session in which the search committee presented its findings.

In addition to Pattenaude, finalists included James Applegate of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education and Warren Fox of the Office of Higher Education of the United Arab Emirates.

Pattenaude will succeed Terrence MacTaggart, who returned to the chancellorship on a one-year assignment following the resignation of Joseph Westphal. The incoming chancellor is expected to begin his new duties July first.
