Alcohol Played Role In Deadly Crash

(AP) – State police say alcohol played a role in a crash in Naples last month in which two 18-year-old Bridgton Academy students died.

The 18-year-old driver, Owen Gill of Lakeville, Massachusetts, survived and remains at Maine Medical Center in Portland with severe injuries.

Brian Doucette of Berwick and Patrick Reddy of Lynn, Massachusetts, who were passengers, were killed in the crash.

State Trooper Dan Hanson says the teenagers were drinking in a girl’s dorm room on the Gorham campus of the University of Southern Maine prior to the crash. Hanson is investigating how the boys obtained the alcohol. He plans to consult later with the district attorney’s office.

The youths were killed when their vehicle left Route 114 and crashed into some trees in early January.

The fourth person in the car, 19-year-old Matthew Scioli of North Reading, Massachusetts, was treated for injuries and released from the hospital.
