Maine’s congressional delegation still stands united in its opposition of President Bush’s latest troop deployment. Tuesday night, during the state of the union address President Bush asked congress to give his war strategy a chance.
Bush also proposed a new tax deduction for purchasing health insurance. Congressman Mike Michaud disagrees with the proposal, saying that it won’t help those who need it most.
Senator Olympia Snowe believes Bush and congress have an opportunity to cooperatively address issues of importance. While Senator Collins credited the president for outlining a domestic policy agenda Tuesday night. But says that it doesn’t go far enough in reducing our dependence on foreign energy.
Collins is part of a bi-partisan effort to raise the average fuel economy standards for all vehicles from 25 to 35 miles per gallon in the next decade.
