In alton, firefighters were called to Route 16 when a wind gust pulled the power mast right off a building, spilling live wires onto the road.
It happened in front of the First Student bus company just before noon on Saturday.
Fire crews called in Bangor Hydro, as well as the bus company’s electrician for help. Route 16 was shut down while crews worked to clear the road and repair the line.
Fire fighters say at least one driver ignored their roadblock, driving over the line wires. It’s a potentially deadly decision that could cost that driver $500 in fines.
