(AP) – A one and a half million dollar gift to Husson College for a new education center Down East is winning thanks today from Governor John Baldacci.
The donation, which comes in the form of property and annual grants, is from Sidney and Nancy Unobskey of Maine and California and will help to establish the Unobskey Education Center in Calais. It’s being called the largest single gift ever received by Husson College.
Baldacci says Unobskeys’ gift brings the promise of graduate education to Washington County, crating new opportunities for the Eastern Maine county’s residents.
Through the Unobskey Education Center, Husson plans to offer graduates of Washington County Community College a seamless transfer to Husson, potentially leading to graduate degrees.
Students in Washington County could earn graduate degrees without having to leave Calais.
Husson, Bangor Theological Seminary, the New England School of Communications and University College of the University of Maine System all plan to use the facility.
