Bangor Looks For A New Chief 



he search for Bangor’s new police chief topped talking points among city councilors tonight.&nbsp:ouncilors met in private before tonights council meeting to talk about filling the chief’s spot. City manager Ed Barrett says councilors hope to let the public know what the next steps will be soon.


s of now, one candidate,&nbsp:Bangor Lt. Ron Gastia, is vying for the position. Deputy Chief Peter Arno withdrew his name from the running earlier this month.


urrent Police Chief Don Winslow retires from the force on February 28th, but Barrett says the city won’t be racing to hire a new chief by that deadline. He says an acting chief will be appointed if necessary.


arrett says councilors have also not decided whether to expand the search beyond the Bangor Police Department. He says a wide range of criteria is considered for police chief, from work experience to community involvement.
