A man from Ireland who was living in Maine has pleaded guilty in federal court to robbing a Bank of America branch in Bangor in October.
Twenty-six-year-old Niall Clarke pleaded guilty yesterday to robbery, using a firearm while committing a violent crime, lying on an application to buy a gun and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Clarke faces up to 25 years in prison on the robbery charge, with more prison time on the other charges. A sentencing date has not been set.
Prosecutors said Clarke was arrested shortly after the robbery driving on Interstate 95 with more than eleven-thousand dollars in his possession.
Officials said Clarke, who was living in Portland at the time of the robbery, came to America a year ago and was supposed to have left last April.
