It was a tense beginning to the day at Nokomis High School in Newport yesterday.
Buseswere still arriving when some students and faculty heard a sound theythought might be a gunshot inside the building. That’s when theschool’s emergency plan kicked in, and Nokomis High was locked-down.
Students still arriving on the buses were diverted to another school, and officials began to investigate.
It turn out that the sound that had been heard was that of a small metal ":pellet": being thrown through a window.
By 9:30, all of the students were allowed to get back to their classes.
Police say they are still investigating, and they aren’t sure at this point if charges will be filed.
